Getting started on your roofing project is always a daunting process. Whether it’s a repair or replacement, it’s very likely going to be expensive, and disruptive to your daily life. As such, you need to put some time into making sure that you work with a company that you trust. You want a company that won’t take advantage of you, and won’t leave you out to dry (or, more accurately, get wet) with shoddy workmanship and poor installation.
We’re located in the Raleigh, North Carolina area, and we see all different kinds of roofing contractors that serve the area, and not all of them are worthy of your business. In towns like Garner, a quick Google search may turn up more questions than answers, as the first several results are for review sites where companies can pay to be listed first, regardless of their actual quality, or number of high ratings.
So, in order to help you narrow down your search, in this blog, we’ll be going over:
Before we dive in, a quick disclaimer: none of the companies on this list are on here because of experiences that we’ve had with them, and this list is not a personal recommendation. The information presented is from the companies’ websites, as well as the Google reviews that they’ve received. This blog is to help you narrow down your roofing search to companies that are locally owned and operated, have received a high rating, and have experience working in the Garner area.
Also, you may be wondering why we, a roofing company that serves Garner, is writing about our competition in the area. Well, our mission is to become a source of roofing information for homeowners in the Triangle area, and that by sharing our knowledge and experience with you, you'll feel like you know us long before you need to reach out to us for a roofing service.
A big part of the roofing industry is of course, the companies, so we're going to talk about them!
Alright, with that out of the way, let’s get started!
Odyssey Contracting got started up in 2016 as a passion project for the owners, with the fundamental principles of treating the customers like they were family, being honest and fair, as well as keeping open communication. Odyssey offers a wide range of home contracting services, including windows, doors, siding, gutters, deck building, and of course, roofing. For those roofing services, they use Owens Corning shingles, and have achieved Platinum Preferred Contractor status from the manufacturer. Odyssey also boasts almost 200 reviews on Google, with a rating of 4.8 stars.
Baker Roofing has one of the longest histories of any roofing company out there, and is headquartered right here in Raleigh. Started in 1915, Baker has remained family owned throughout its lifetime, and has since become one of the largest roofing companies in the southeast. The company has split its attention to multiple kinds of roofs, with its residential work conducted through the Home Exteriors by Baker brand. As the name suggests, they offer a full range of home exterior services, like roofing, windows, gutters, siding, and doors.
Local Quality Roofing serves much of the area south and east of Raleigh from its headquarters in Garner. The company is veteran-owned, and is very serious about providing a quality service to the homeowners who choose to work with them. While they do work on gutters and siding, roofing is their main priority, offering roof replacement, repair, inspection, and new roof installation services.
Red Letter Roofing is a well-established roofing company that has its headquarters in Garner. The company says its name comes from words written in red having a memorable and special importance. Red Letter’s primary focus is on commercial clients, and they usually work on large scale roofing systems, providing maintenance services alongside their installations. That being said, they do offer asphalt shingle and metal roofing for residential customers, and are certified by GAF for residential roof repairs and replacements.
Your Roofing Hub is a Garner based roofing company that provides commercial and residential roofing, and solar services. The company is BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, and offers a full range of Atlas roofing products, and asphalt shingles. They also have a full 5-star rating on Google, with just under 40 reviews. The company also maintains a pretty active Facebook page that shows off the work they’ve got going on, along with some customer testimonies.
If you’re taking a look at this blog because you’re dealing with a roof leak, then we’ve got some more tips for you on how to approach the rest of your project! One of the main things that you should have an idea of before you talk with a roofer, is how much any given project should cost. Obviously the real cost can vary greatly, so all we can do is give a solid range, but after reading on, you should have an idea of what to expect!
Gutters can be the cause of several roof problems, despite them being one of the most helpful parts of our roof systems. This is because so often they get clogged by leaves and debris, and aren’t cleaned out as frequently as they should be. Once a gutter gets clogged, the water it was channeling can no longer flow through, which causes a myriad of issues. The gutter could begin pulling down the soffit, and warp the roof, or if the water backs up onto the fascia, it may begin to find its way through.
This depends on how long they’ve been clogged, and the extent of the damage. If your gutters have begun to damage the decking and fascia, be prepared to part with several hundred dollars to repair this issue, as it might require a good bit of work and material. However, if you catch your clogs early enough, and clean them out, you can save a ton of money. Clean your gutters people!
We see damaged shingles most often on older roofs after being exposed to a particularly strong storm. Shingles act as the first, and strongest line of defense against the elements, so you’ll want to get this taken care of quickly. When there is a hole in the layer of shingles, often next up is the underlayment, and roof decking, which you don’t want to have getting wet.
This will vary depending on the kind of shingles you have, the pitch of your roof, how much area is damaged, and where the damage is located. The costs we usually see can be anywhere between $500 and $3,500, with small holes in a three-tab shingle roof on the low end, and on the higher end, a larger damaged area in a higher quality shingle roof. If your roof is nearing the end of its lifespan, and the cost of the replacement is in that $2,000 to $3,000 range, you may be recommended a replacement, since you would likely need that in a few years anyway.
Pipe Boot IssuesA pipe boot is what goes around the bottom of a ventilation pipe in order to make sure there are no open areas for water to get through around the pipe. These boots can be made out of various materials, including metal, plastic, and synthetic rubber. The rubber ones are particularly prone to failing, as they can dry out and crack with the heavy sun exposure they receive.
This is one of the more simple repairs to make, as the leak might be able to be sealed with a rubber collar, or if necessary, fully replacing the boot itself. This will typically cost between $325 and $375.
