A big part of the roofing industry is of course, the companies, so we're going to talk about them! And like we mentioned at the top, companies can pay to be ranked highly on some of the more popular national rankings sites, so we took it upon ourselves to make lists of local roofers that you can trust are accurate and unbiased. So let’s look at those local roofers!
RoofCrafters primarily focuses on installing metal roofing in Pittsboro, Siler City, and other Chatham County communities, as well as Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, and Durham. They also provide asphalt shingle roof replacement services, and have been installing roofs since 1988. With 25+ five-star reviews on Google, RoofCrafters customers tend to be pretty happy with their experience after it’s all said and done.
Since 2011, Artisan Quality Roofing has been conducting roof repair, roof replacement, and roof maintenance services in and around the Triangle area. They are a family-owned company, that has seen most of its business come from referrals. Though it is one of the younger companies on the list, Artisan Quality Roofing holds GAF Certified, CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster, and Owen’s Corning Preferred Contractor certifications.
B&B Roofing offers both residential and commercial roofing services in Pittsboro, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Apex, and more. They’ve been in business since 1989, and are family-owned and operated. If you want to take a look at some of their recent work, they have a gallery on their website that shows their residential asphalt roof replacements, and some commercial roofing that they have done. B&B Roofing is BBB Accredited and has GAF Certified Roofing Contractor status.
Though they are more of a general contractor than a roofing specialist, AMI Builders does offer quality roofing services to the Pittsboro, NC area. They make the claim that no job is too big or too small for their contractors, and the long list of services on their website certainly backs that up. For over thirty years they have conducted asphalt shingle, tile, slate, and metal roof repairs in Pittsboro.
Another general contractor that offers roofing services in Pittsboro, Carolina Home Specialists has built up a strong reputation in the Triad. The company has its original headquarters in Greensboro, and has recently opened an office in Durham to better serve the Triangle region. CHS uses GAF roofing products, and is a GAF Master Elite Contractor, the highest level of certification that GAF offers.
If you’re considering getting a roof replacement, you’re probably also wondering about what state your property will be left in after it’s all said and done. Different roofing companies have different ways of going about this, but there are a few things that should absolutely be done to make sure things are kept clean.
The first step that your company should take to protect your property is to document exactly how everything was when they arrived. More sophisticated roofers will take pictures of everything around the house, any damage that might already exist, as well as anything breakable. That way, if anything breaks, they’ll know exactly what happened.
The crew should also start by placing tarps over sensitive areas of the house like over porches and in front of windows, really anywhere that debris will be falling from the roof. The tarps should cover the face of the house, and down over the ground where the debris will land. This way it will be much easier for the crew to see and clean up the nails and other old materials that have fallen down to the ground.
If there are even more sensitive areas around the home, like an HVAC unit or a special garden, be sure to let your contractor know. They may be able to take special care around those places, and even put together boards in a structure that may help protect them from falling debris.
The roofing crew should also have had a dumpster delivered to the jobsite the morning of the replacement, so that they have a place to store all of the discarded materials in an organized way.
During the tear off the materials should be periodically gathered and put into the dumpster, and the area where they were should also be cleaned up. When everything is taken down from the roof, the crew will focus on making sure that everything is clean up before they start opening up the packages for the new roofing materials.
On top of the roof, there will likely be someone either sweeping or blowing off the roof to make sure that all the debris gets off now, instead of coming down later when it next rains. The same should be done with your gutters. Debris may get stuck in them, especially if leaves or pine straw have already been in there.
That step is especially important, as gutter clogs can cause a lot of havoc later on if they get backed up when it rains. Water can work its way back underneath shingles, and start to rot the decking and fascia in those areas.
Immediately following the installation, the crew will start looking more closely around the property for bits of shingles and loose nails around the property. This will include checking beds of pine straw for nails, as well as shaking out the gutter spouts to make sure everything got through the way it should.
The team will also sweep the yard with magnets, that will more easily pick up nails and dispose of them in the dumpster. One quick note: if you’re able to, it’s a good idea to cut your grass shortly before you get a roof replacement done. The short grass will make it much easier for the crew to spot any fallen nails, and make it easier for the magnet to grab them through the grass.
Once this is all wrapped up, a truck will come to take the dumpster, the crew will gather all of their tools, and leave your property looking as good as new, complete with a new roof on top!
